Level Smart Glasses
The Problem
Activity trackers such as Fitbit require users not only to wear an additional device, but more importantly, to remember to wear it. Studies show that this extra mental energy causes users to drop off after about 3 months.
The Solution
Level Smart Glasses seamlessly integrate activity tracking technology into a pair of fashion eyewear. Since full-time glasses wearers would never leave home without their glasses, this reduces the friction of use, and increases the long term adoption rate. Users are also continuously motivated to keep moving in order to reach their goals to earn points towards making a donation to Eyes of Hope®.

Target Persona: Sara, 35
Sara is a working mom who is always on the go. She believes in the benefits physical activity on her mind and body, but between carpooling and her desk job, she spends most of the day being sedentary. She’s used a FitBit in the past, at least, when she remembered to wear it. She wouldn’t consider herself an athlete, but she is always up for a 5k for a good cause.
Sara’s User Journey
User Flow
As the lead designer, I was responsible for creating the UX strategy. Since Level smart glasses are one of the first wearable devices that is also HIPPA compliant, much of the UX needed to be adjusted to meet those standards. This UX was tested through multiple iterations, but like all digital products, the paint is never dry.
Wireframes
User Testing
Initial user testing involved 20+ users across the country interacting with our lower fidelity wireframes to inform more refined iterations. Once a consistent direction was reached, a cohort of 10 users tested the app prototype at the end of each sprint. This allowed for quick and informed iterative prototyping.

About the Product
Level smart Glasses
Introducing next generation glasses with built-in activity tracking technology. Level™ smart glasses seamlessly integrate activity-tracking technology into an accessory you already wear every day. Thanks to Level, keeping an eye on your activity goals has never been easier.
Inside Level Technology
Inside Level Smart Glasses is an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a magnetometer, Low Energy Bluetooth, a battery, a MicroUSB connector, and a CPU. The temples are injection molded with a meticulously designed cavity to hold the hardware. The fronts are carved from Italian acetate. All of these parts come together to create a beautiful pair of fashion eyewear that does more than just help you see.
Function + Fashion
Level smart glasses were designed with fashion in the forefront. Prior to working with The Shop, I worked as an eyewear designer for Marchon Eyewear. I was able to use that experience to design fashion forward frames out using the highest quality Italian acetate. The frames come in 3 unisex styles and a variety of color ways.
